New hospital hygiene campaign
The Betsi Cadwalader University Health Board are running a new hand hygiene campaign in order to reduce the spread of infections in hospitals. The ‘Bare Below the Elbows’ scheme will remind staff, patients and visitors how vital cleanliness is. This involves encouraging staff to wear short sleeved tops and requesting ill visitors to stay away from hospitals.
Reena Cartmel, a director of the Board, claimed that wearing shorter sleeves will make it “easier for them to wash their hands thoroughly when moving from one patient to another.” This move is part of a wider agenda to improve hand hygiene in hospitals.
