The importance of flame-resistant clothing

Back to articles

There are reports that in the US each year, fire takes more lives than natural disasters do altogether. Initiatives to reduce this include an increase in the number of fire safety courses available and ensuring that all public buildings have fire exit. Some jobs require an extra degree of safety, for example, the need to use fire-resistant clothing.

What is fire-resistant clothing?

According to 3PCMedia.com, this is clothing that doesn’t ignite, reduces burn injury and lessens the recovery time of such an injury. Garments are either made of a fire-resistant fabric, or have been sprayed with a fire-resistant chemical.

Where is it used?

  1. 1.       Firefighers, electrical workers and miners all wear fire-resistant garments to protect against fire and extreme heat.
  2. 2.       Children’s sleepwear: The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) state that children’s sleepwear for children older than 9 months old that aren’t “snug fitting” has to be fire-resistant.
